Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
1. Who we are
Purrlyne is a project run by an individual, not a registered company. The fastest and most reliable way to reach us for any privacy question or request is support@purrlyne.com.
2. Who can use Purrlyne
Purrlyne is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to create an account. Your date of birth is checked against this minimum at signup — accounts that don't meet it are rejected at the database level, not just by a checkbox. We don't currently run third-party age verification beyond this declaration.
3. What we collect
Account information: email address, password (hashed by our authentication provider, never visible to us in plain text), username, date of birth, country, spoken language, gender, and an optional avatar.
Chat content:
- 1-on-1 random chat messages are relayed live between the two of you and are not stored in our database.
- Messages in public rooms are stored so the room has history when you return, but each room only keeps its most recent 60 messages — older ones are deleted automatically.
- Direct messages with accepted contacts are stored so your conversation is there the next time you open it. We don't currently auto-delete these on a timer — they're kept until you delete your account (or ask us to remove them sooner).
Safety & moderation data: when a message is reported (by a user or by our automated safety filter), we store the message content, the reported user's username, the reason, and — for automated safety reports — the IP address involved, so a moderator can review it and so we can enforce bans.
Billing information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details directly — we never see or store your full card number. We keep a reference to your Stripe customer and subscription ID and which plan you're on.
Technical data:we don't store your IP address in our own database unless it's tied to a ban or a safety report, and we don't collect precise geolocation (only the country you declare). Our hosting providers (Vercel, Railway) process IP addresses as a normal part of serving any website — that happens at their infrastructure level, under their own privacy policies, not something we separately log ourselves.
4. Cookies
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in (set by our authentication provider, Supabase). We don't use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies.
5. Why we process this data
- To provide the matching, chat, and rooms features (performance of our contract with you).
- To keep the platform safe — moderation, ban enforcement, and detecting illegal content (our legitimate interest, and in some cases a legal obligation).
- To verify you meet the minimum age requirement (legal obligation).
- To process your subscription and payments (performance of contract).
6. Who we share it with
We use a small number of processors to run Purrlyne: Supabase (database, authentication), Stripe (payments), and our hosting providers Vercel and Railway (serving the site and running the chat server). They only receive what they need to provide their service to us. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
If we're legally required to — for example, a report involving illegal content affecting a minor — we may share relevant information with the competent authorities.
7. How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- 1-on-1 chat messages: not retained at all.
- Room messages: rolling cap of the 60 most recent per room.
- Direct messages: kept until account deletion.
- Moderation reports: kept even after the reported account is deleted (the message and username stay on record; the link to the deleted account itself is removed), so we can maintain a safety history and respond to legal requests.
- IP bans: kept until the ban expires or is lifted by a moderator.
8. Your rights
Under GDPR, you can ask to access, correct, or delete your data, object to or restrict certain processing, and request a copy of your data. You can delete your account and its associated data yourself from Settings, or email support@purrlyne.com. If you believe we haven't handled your data properly, you can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Meaningful changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
